Festivals Of Cedarburg
I have been volunteering for the Cedarburg festivals for about 3 years, and they asked if I’d like to design the Strawberry Festival posters. They were looking for a more illustrative style and needed three varied samples to start with. The first three designs were presented to them with the requirements of their logo, their sponsors logo, name, date, QR, socials and no dogs icon. The three are very different each focusing on a different aspect of the festival.
The first poster is a fun illustration of the strawberry shortcake that gets made. The strawberry syrup typically gets pretty messy and was is incredibly memorable.
The second poster was made to focus more on the history of Cedarburg and the festivals. In general both draw many tourists each year so I decided on a postage stamp as a symbol of people traveling to Cedarburg. I incorporated a weathered texture and the City of Cedarburgs logo as a seal to add to the historic value.
The third poster was made to bring light to the many vendors who attend strawberry festival. From clothing, to art, to food and drink, there’s something for everyone at the festival.
The Final Design
After those three posters were presented, the decision was made to go in a different direction with a more retro mascot design. So I personified the most recognizable aspect of strawberry festival, the carton of strawberries. Following the Festival staffs feedback, I created the poster below. Although the printed poster had other edits made to it, the solo strawberry man was printed on the 2025 merch.
